For sale NXG Technology NX-PRO103i 10" 150-Watt 3-Way In-Ceiling Speakers With Pivoting Tweeters (pair) Better than I expectedBy Nick JohnsonYesterday I installed 7 speakers in the house I'm building. Along with the pair of NX-PRO103i, I installed two Boston Acoustics CS-280's (8"), one Boston Acoustics DSi455 (6"), and two Yamaha NS-IW480C's (8"). The NXG's are the best of the lot. In all fairness, they are 10" speakers whereas the others are 8" and 6", but size alone doesn't make a speaker sound better. Design and quality of build are more important, not that I know much more about speakers than that. I'm no techie, no specialist; I just love good music (rock, jazz, classical) and I'm only more pleased when I can hear it through good speakers. I installed these in the ceiling of my living room, the dimensions of which are about 13w x 22l x 11h. The sound was big, warm and full. I moved around the room and found their reach dropped off a little in the corners but only slightly. In 80% of the room the volume was constant. The clarity was breathtaking. The two or three songs I listened to are ones I'd heard fifty or sixty times in my car and iPod. But this was hearing the songs anew with instruments in the music I was unaware were there. The speakers seem to seperate out each tone and voice. The speakers are lively, tight yet expansive, powerful, deep and resonant. I've never installed in-wall or in-celing speakers before, though I've heard them in my father-in-law's house and never thought they were much good. I purchased these for the living room because my wife didn't want conventional speakers. I'm so glad I did. Also, I took the advice of a friend and made a 1/2 inch plywood template of each speaker and anchored them with drywall screws to the ceiling studs. My friend said it would make the quality of sound better by giving it a foundation that wouldn't vibrate. His other advice was to pack a layer of conventional fiberglass insulation in the space before putting in the speaker. I did templates and insulation for the Boston Acoustics and Yamahas as well. I believe these steps helped to boost the performance of all the speakers, but as I said the best-sounding speakers are the NXGs, the least expensive of the bunch by the way. A rock solid deal that I highly recommend.See all 1 customer reviews... »
